About the Film:

Set over the course of seven days in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park, this compassionate drama follows José, an undocumented Mexican immigrant and bicycle delivery worker who leads a local soccer team. When his team reaches the finals, José faces a wrenching choice between playing with his teammates on the field or keeping the job that sustains their fragile lives. Told with tender realism and warmth, En el Séptimo Día reveals the rhythms of work, community, and joy in the everyday struggle for dignity in a city defined by its immigrant energy.

About Uptown Film Center:

The Uptown Film Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a state-of-the-art community film center on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in the historic former Metro Theater. Currently raising funds for the build-out of a five-screen arthouse cinema at Broadway and 99th Street, the Center will preserve the landmarked façade while transforming the space into a vibrant cultural hub for independent film, educational programming, and community-based experiences. Once complete, it will be the only full-time, nonprofit independent film destination north of 72nd Street and the only cinema center in New York City to offer a comprehensive film literacy program for all ages.

As it works toward its planned opening, the Uptown Film Center is engaging audiences now through curated pop-up screenings and partnerships across New York City. These programs serve as an early expression of its mission to create an accessible, inclusive, and community-centered space where multigenerational and multicultural audiences come together through shared storytelling and the power of cinema.

Join in preserving and transforming the former Metro Theater into the Uptown Film Center, a state-of-the-art, five-screen, independent film and education center. Donate here.
