Undesirable Secrets

1st November 2025 @ 2:00 pm - 3:25 pm
$52.50

Playwright and performer Rodolfo Alvarado brings his critically acclaimed solo play, Undesirable Secrets, to the world’s largest solo theatre festival, United Solo, for its Off-Broadway debut at Theatre Row on November 1.

Fresh from a celebrated run at New York City’s Theatre for the New City Dream Up Festival, as well as performances in Chicago and Texas, the production has played to sold-out houses, standing ovations, and critical acclaim.

Bob Wicke, Theatre Critic and Professor Emeritus of English in NYC, praised it as, “A Triumph in Performance and Writing… As someone who has seen more than 300 plays on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway, and reviewed hundreds, I do not make this statement lightly: Undesirable Secrets is worthy of Broadway.”

Bill Koch, critic and performer with the Performing Arts Legacy Project, called it “fascinating, moving, and painful… a symphony,” while Patricia Herrera of Latino Media NYC declared it “brilliant and mesmerizing. A new Latino voice and talent worthy of a New York stage.”

At the heart of Undesirable Secrets is the true story of Anthony C. Acevedo, a Mexican American WWII medic and the first Mexican American to sign the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Benjamin and Vladka Meed Registry of Holocaust Survivors. Captured during the Battle of the Bulge and deported to the Nazi slave labor camp at Berga, Acevedo endured unspeakable trauma. Upon liberation, he and his fellow POWs were ordered into silence by the U.S. Army—an order Acevedo kept for over sixty years, until memory, conscience, and the voices of the past compelled him to break that silence. The play also also reflects on the early abuse Acevedo endured at the hands of his father, showing how personal and generational trauma reverberates throughout a lifetime.
